Alan Pardew says Newcastle lost discipline in 6-0 Liverpool defeat
Alan Pardew says Newcastle lost discipline in 6-0 Liverpool defeat Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said his side lost their discipline in the humiliating 6-0 defeat to Liverpool. The result left the Magpies five points above 17th-placed Wigan in the Premier League, having played one game more. "I didn't see that coming; it is a tough blow. We lost our discipline," said Pardew. "It is very important now that we get at least four or five points more to get safe. We are in a battle, more so than we have been in all season." Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson scored twice and Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini were also on target as the Reds romped to their biggest win of the season, in the first game since leading scorer Luis Suarez was banned for 10 games for biting. Newcastle nightmare Newcastle have conceded six goals or more in only four Premier League games - and two of them have come this season (they lost 7-3 against Arsenal in December) Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy was sent off with the scoreline at 5-0, while several disgruntled fans at St James' Park left the ground early. "We need to show some discipline. A guy got sent off and we completely lost our way," said Pardew. "It was a day that started badly and we never really recovered. There were poor goals and defensively we were not good enough. "They were very good and we were very bad. We have to put it right and the only way to do that is 10.30am at training on Monday morning and everyone sticking together." Newcastle travel to West Ham and Queens Park Rangers in their next two games, before hosting Arsenal on the final day of the season. "We lost a little bit of fight today. The players need to show we have the heart for this," added Pardew, 51. "We will fight to the end. Hopefully that will be enough; I think it will." Pardew said he would consider making changes to the side for the trip former club West Ham next Saturday. "Perhaps we need a bit more experience and I will look at that in the selection next week," he said.
