Keegan holds productive talks

Kevin Keegan will continue as Newcastle United manager after holding 'productive and constructive' talks with owner Mike Ashley on Friday.

There was speculation about the former England boss' future when he said after his side's 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Monday that the Magpies had no chance of breaking into the top four next season.

However, United chairman Chris Mort said: "It was a good meeting. It was both productive and constructive."

Keegan had said after his side's Bank Holiday Monday defeat: "The top four this year will be the top four next year. I want to tell the Newcastle fans that we want to get fifth. We will be trying to win the other league that's going on.

"It's just the truth. I'm not disappointed. Being back in now underlines what I thought.

"If we can get to fifth, it will be a massive achievement for this club. And it's very, very exciting to finish fifth."
