Would Boro Job Interest Shearer?

Is Alan Shearer still in shock after going down in history as being the manager to relegate Newcastle?

I think we all accept that Joe Kinnear did the damage, but Shearer has stayed clear of management ever since.

Has he lost his bottle? You know what, I seriously believe he has!

Would the job at Middlesbrough interest him? I don't think ANY job would get him back into management.

Mike Phelan has emerged as the favourite to be the next Smoggy boss following a surge of support at the bookmakers.

There has been a run of bets on the former Manchester United assistant manager taking the Boro job as his first managerial position, having left Old Trafford along with Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season.

Tony Pulis was installed as the initial favourite but has since drifted out from 6/4 to 8/1 to take the post, while caretaker-boss Mark Venus, Stuart Pearce (both 20/1), Martin O'Neill and Alex McLeish (both 22/1) are considered alternative options.

As for Shearer? The manager's hot seat seemed to burn his arse at St James' Park and it's the comfort of the BBC studio from now on.
