Will 'Penny Pinching' Ashley Leave It Late (Again!)?

Last summer's transfer window Mike Ashley had us waiting until the last possible minute, trying to bring in players from the Bargain Bucket. Will he do it again?

Newcastle legend Rob Lee says players should be bought and sold ASAP!

Rob Lee: "It's best that those surplus to next season are sold ASAP so Pardew can use the funds to strengthen a squad that desperately needs to improve.

"That's easier said than done these days.

"There are guys at Newcastle on long contracts that earn them a lot of money. They are not so easy to budge out of the door.

"But this is what needs to happen and, I hope for Pardew's sake, it is done before the end of July so he has at least two weeks with which to work with all the players that will be part of his squad.

"I have always been a great believer in getting transfers both in and out completed as soon as possible.

"There are managers who seem to love waiting until the last possible minute before doing any business. I don’t get that.

"I recall the summer of 1995 quite clearly when Les Ferdinand, Warren Barton, David Ginola and Shaka Hislop were all signed by Kevin Keegan before or just at the start of pre-season training.

"That's the perfect scenario. Alas, that doesn't happen too much in football."
