Will Gutiérrez Attract Interest On World Cup Stage?
Jonás Gutiérrez struggled in his first season in thev Premiership but he has massively improved during Newcastle's title-winning season. OK no-one is kidding anyone, the Championship is a pale shadow of the Premiership, but Diego Maradona is convinced the flying winger could set the World Cup alight. The Argentina manager has shown his hand ahead of the World Cup, and sees Gutiérrez the key to Lionel Messi proving his world class credentials. The fact remains - if Spiderman makes a name for himself and Argentina have a good campaign - he could be heading back to Spain after the competition. Barcelona were rumoured to be after him in the January transfer window, but cooled their interest. But if he forms a good partnership with Messi ... who knows what the future could hold?
