Why Do Injuries Plague Geordies And Mackems?

Newcastle and 5under1and have had more "unavailable" players this season than any other club. Why? Traditionally we have had players who 'pull a sicky' at the drop of a hat - Pistone, Marcelino, Bassedas, Babayaro, Owen, etc - but who do we have these days trying to pull the wool over the gaffa's eyes? Analysis by physioroom.com, who collate the injury database for the top flight, has shown that United were second in the table for having players unavailable. Out of their 25-man squad, players were missing for a total of 1643 days, only to be outdone by arch-rivals Sunderland. Stuart Mills (from physioroom.com): “Newcastle have really suffered with long-term injuries to important players this term. “I imagine after the upheaval in the early part of the season they will be very satisfied with what has been achieved. “It is hard for the big four to cope with this level of injuries, however for the rest of the league, with smaller squads, it is very tricky.”
