Why Did Demba Ba Snub Toon Interest?

Alan Pardew claims his team is stilling missing the presence of Demba Ba. But the Chelsea striker is sat on the bench these days, even though he is picking up £80,000 per week.

Would he rethink the move to London had he known there would be a change of manager and he would tumble down the reckoning?

I'm not so sure. Money has always been his God, and when he refused to talk to Newcastle in the summer transfer window it was obvious he has no ties to Tyneside.

Fernando Torres does not believe Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho favours Samuel Eto'o ahead of himself or Ba.

Since arriving late in August, Eto'o has seemingly emerged as Chelsea's first-choice striker, and Mourinho made two bids for Wayne Rooney last month.

But Torres, who started in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Swindon, feels that he will be given a fair chance by Mourinho.

Fernando Torres: "We have great strikers and all of us are going to score goals.

"It's nice to have this competition. The season is going to be long like the last one.

"There'll be time for all of us to play in important games and score some goals.

"The main thing is we keep winning. We are in the top four in the Premier League and have moved one step forward in the [League] Cup.

"We're all fighting to be in the line-up, to be in the squad.

"It is not easy but is good for the improvement of the team."
