When The Cat's Away - The Mouse Will Talk!

11 July 2013 12:28
Alan Pardew spent a month hiding under the bed, as Joe Kinnear took over as the mouth-piece of NUFC. But, while Kinnear is on holiday, we cannot shut Pardew up!

The 51-year-old insists he has no plans to quit and is looking ahead to the new season in light of 2012-13's relegation battle and Joe Kinnear's appointment.

Kinnear says he is "director of football", but behind his back Pardew tells us he is not! Apparently Joe doesn't have the powers he says he has - but Pardew has been extremely SLOW in telling us that.

Alan 'The Mouse' has defended his achievements while at the St. James' Park helm, but admitted disappointment at last season.

The 51-year-old was criticised last term as the Magpies fought for their Premier League survival.

His tactics were poor - United having the stats to show they played more long-balls than any other Premiership team - and failing to score from a single corner in over 385 efforts spanning two years.

Pardew put it down to: "We have small forwards".

But, the team who scored from 19 corners last season - Man Utd - have Rooney and Van Persie, who hardly come from Land Of The Giants.

Pardew: "I have worked very hard at this club and I am very proud of what I have achieved here,.

"We reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, and you have to finish in fifth place in the Premier League just to be in the Europa League.

"Last season, in the end, I felt we were a top-ten team for the last 15 games when those guys [Newcastle’s five January signings] arrived.

"That kind of went under the radar. One win would have had us jumping four or five places and that would have looked more respectable."

"The disappointing factor last season was the performances.

"I didn’t think the results we got were to the level we could have achieved.

"I am looking for a marked improvement in performance, and if we do that, then results will follow."

He also says: "I will be bringing in new ideas in training, and I hope they work".

But rumour has it, Joe 'The Caveman' could be taking over on the training pitch.

Pardew's long-ball game v Kinnear's ... errrr ... long-ball game?

It could be VERY interesting.
