We must take our chances - Hughton

Chris Hughton insists Newcastle must be more clinical in front of goal to put themselves firmly in the shake-up for promotion come May. The Magpies had plenty of possession in Saturday's opener at West Brom and carved out some decent chances, yet only Damien Duff managed to find the net to take one point from what could quite easily have been all three. Hughton watched on as his side managed a total of 14 efforts on goal at The Hawthorns, eight of which were on target, and he knows a killer instinct will prove key in the race for promotion to the Premier League. The caretaker boss told the club's official website: "Damien Duff's goal against West Brom was a good move and a great finish and I think that's what we missed in certain periods of the game. "At times our football was good and we moved the ball well across the park but, as we showed with the goal, it's the final piece of quality and guile that counts. That's something we have to work on over the coming weeks. "We've got the players to hurt teams and in this division you need goals, and lots of them, to get out of it."
