Walcott at the double in easy win

Theo Walcott plundered a well-taken double as Arsenal powered their way into the Carling Cup quarter-finals with a 4-0 win at Newcastle. Walcott's controversial 53rd-minute strike, when defender Mike Williamson appeared to be blocked by Nicklas Bendtner, made it 2-0 after Tim Krul's own goal in first-half injury time. The Dutchman saw Ryan Taylor's attempted clearance hit him and rebound into the net just as it looked as though the Magpies had ridden out an early storm. However, there was no fortune about Bendtner's 83rd-minute strike - a fine right-foot finish - and Walcott's second with two minutes remaining as the Gunners powered their way into the last eight. He raced clear to beat Krul for the second time and complete a comprehensive victory. Alan Smith came closest to a goal for the home side when his 25-yard piledriver was turned onto the crossbar by Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with 14 minutes gone.
