Vuckic - The One Toon Kid That Looks Capable!

Haris Vuckic - the one star of United's youth academy - made his comeback after nine frustrating months on the sidelines.

He scored in Newcastle United’s 4-2 win over Motherwell last night, and also set up a goal for Yoan Gouffran at Fir Park.

The 20-year-old, who has fought back time and again from a wretched series of injuries in recent season, ruptured his cruciate ligament playing in reserve game last October.

The kid is the one bright star I have seen come through the ranks in years ... since Steven Taylor ten years ago.

Haris Vuckic: “I’m very happy.

“After nine months working hard and in the shadows, the gaffer gave me a chance.

“I’ve really worked hard in training.

“On the pitch, we played well and created a lot of chances.

“It was important that we won, and the goal was a bonus for me. Everything’s good – I’m happy!

“I was a little bit surprised that I was starting straight away, but in the summer holidays I was really working hard and pushing myself to get really fit.

“I wanted to get into the team. The gaffer gave me a chance, and the most important thing is to keep him happy.

“Sometimes those are the best goals, when you get that gift and you just have to tap them in.

“Actually, the ball surprised me a little bit, so I had to react pretty quick. Thankfully, it was a goal.

“The most important thing was that we looked good and played sharp.

“For example, in the first game of last pre-season (the 1-0 defeat to Chemnitzer), we didn’t look confident.

“But we created a lot of chances, and looked sharp and confident. That’s a good start to pre-season.”
