Newcastle Vipers defied the odds to keep open the door to the Elite League play-off semi-finals after a 2-2 draw with Coventry Blaze tonight.[LNB]Unfancied in the tie, the Vipers led through Likit Andersson's powerplay goal, only for Coventry to hit back with two from Adam Calder.[LNB]However, Ed Courtenay scored in the second period and that is how it stayed to set up an intriguing second leg in Newcastle tomorrow night.[LNB]Cardiff Devils will take a slight advantage home to Wales after a 2-1 win over Belfast Giants tonight, while Nottingham Panthers hold a more comfortable lead, 6-3, over Manchester Phoenix.[LNB]
