Northern Ireland Under-21 manager Steve Beaglehole believes Shane Ferguson was never tempted to switch allegiance to the Republic of Ireland, despite failing to answer his phone whenever former boss Nigel Worthington gave him a call.
Ferguson is in the Northern Ireland squad to face Serbia tonight in a Euro 2013 Under-21 qualifier in Coleraine, suggesting (for the moment) that he is committed to Northern Ireland.
Defender Ferguson has already earned a senior cap, in a friendly against Italy two years ago, but is not yet tied to the country as it was not a competitive international.
