Tough start pleases Beardsley

Newcastle legend Peter Beardsley has welcomed a tough start to the club's bid for an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League. The Magpies begin at relegated West Brom on August 8 and face fellow former top-flight sides Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Crystal Palace and Leicester in the first five games. Beardsley, a veteran of the successful 1983-84 promotion campaign, told the club`s official website: "It's a brilliant start. The first five games are all against former Premier League sides and clubs with ambition to get back in the top flight. "They will be tough games but I'm sure they will be good games. That's also important for the fans that we did have some big games at home early on in the season. "All of that points towards some good games and also a chance to take points from teams who, come the end of the season, will probably be up there in the promotion race."
