Toon Try To Get Away Ticket Prices Dropped!

09 October 2013 13:14
Newcastle United are leading the way in a fan-backed campaign to bring the cost of Premier League away tickets down to £20.

The club will charge visiting fans that price should theirs be given the same deal, according to The Independent.

Manchester United have also followed Liverpool and Arsenal in reducing the cost of every away ticket bought by their fans this season.

United will take off £4, Arsenal £2.50 and Liverpool between £2 and £4 depending on the opposition.

The move comes after the Premier League announced the establishment of a £12 million fund - drawn from TV revenues - for the next three seasons which will ensure each of the 20 Premier League clubs set aside £200,000 each per season to help fans pay for away games.

The Premier League are hoping to counter a 9.6 percent reduction in away attendances last season, largely due to high costs.

FSF chief executive Kevin Miles: "The one cost that every fan has to pay, regardless of how they travel and where from, is the price through the gate.

"Subsidised travel is fine for those who choose to travel by coach - and we welcome it - though that is not much use to the people who live nearer the away ground than the home stadium.

"It is the question of ticket prices that we are keenest to see explored. We are watching with interest to see what clubs come up with."

Kinnear - Villain Or Hero For Keeping Cabaye?

PLEASE VOTE

Yohan Cabaye has suggested Newcastle United's director of football Joe Kinnear is the reason why his summer switch to Arsenal did not take place.

And let's clear this up - Cabaye was the subject of a £10m bid from the Gunners on the FRIDAY before the MONDAY Premier League opener at Manchester City. Not on the eve of the match as Alan Pardew claims.

The Frenchman not only refused to play in that fixture, but refused to play against Fulham and the Capital One Cup trip to Morecambe as he attempted to drive through a move to the Emirates.

Arsenal opted to break the British transfer record to land Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid instead of offering the £20m asking price Newcastle wanted.

Speaking yesterday ahead of France’s friendly with Australia on Friday, Cabaye refused to discuss his reasons for not playing for Newcastle – while hinting Kinnear knows more.

The Newcastle midfielder said: “I won’t explain about that today (strike in the summer at Newcastle), it is not for me to answer, I don’t want to talk about it. This is a press conference for the national team.

“It is already over, the only person who could talk about (what happened in the summer) is Joe Kinnear, it will never leave my mouth.”
