Toon Star Says Winning 6-0 Is Only Half A Story

Wayne Routledge says winning 6-0 was brilliant ... but Newcastle must follow it up. Wayne Routledge: “The result against Aston Villa has given everyone a lot of confidence, it was an unbelievable result. “You work hard all week preparing for the game, but you do not get too many results like that. “It could not have gone any better for us really. It is nice to win in that manner, no matter which division you are in, but it was important for us to get a home win under our belts quickly. “We feel we belong in the Premier League, but we also have to prove we are good enough. “We are here on merit after coming up as champions, but that result has given everyone a lot of self-belief. The trick with a result like that is to follow up. “You do not want to get too carried away by it because we are two games into a very long season. We have another tough game against Wolves away from home, but the aim has got to be to take some points from that and build on what we did to Villa. “I have never been happier. I have been at a lot of clubs, but I have found something really good here. “I am really enjoying it. I get on really well with everyone and I think that shows in my football. “I needed that. It has gone really well for me up here. “I had to get settled at a club, find a club where I felt a part of it. “I feel as though I can express myself here. “Your teammates give you the confidence to do that. When you are happy and settled, that will always be when you play your best football. “We are all striving for the same thing, which is to keep Newcastle United in the Premier League and hopefully a little bit more than that. “I have a point to prove as a Premier League player, but everyone has here. We have a point to prove every time we step out on to the pitch. “At the moment things are going well, but we have to maintain it. If we let our standards slip, it could all change very quickly.”
