Toon Star Says Relegation Did Him Good

I remember when we lost the play-offs to the Mackems back in 1990 a lot of Toon fans said: "It was the best thing that could have happened - we were not ready for the top flight". Personally I have not heard a bigger load of SHIT spoken in all my years following Newcastle. It was a disaster that took three years to recover from. So much so we suffered so much from that 2-0 defeat at St James' Park on May 16th (a date I will never forget) that we almost ended up in Division Three not long after after. And when Danny Guthrie says the Championship did him good last season, I think he is a player looking at the glass being half full rather than half empty. He is taking the positive stance ... and that's the right attitude to take into this new season. Danny Guthrie: “I do think I am a better player after a year in the Championship, not that I want to do it again. “It makes you stronger in terms of your mental strength, as well as physically. “Also because I have that sense of achievement at the end of it. “We proved a lot of people wrong last season. “It was a really positive experience for me as a player and a person, but it is not one I ever want to do again.”
