Toon Skipper Says We Should Put Things Into Perspective

Fabricio Coloccini believes that United should not look any further than retaining top-flight status next term. Some bookies have us 2,000/1 to win the Premiership, and 8/1 to get relegated ... which puts a lot of things into perspective. Of course we are not going to win the league - we know that - and the Toon skipper wants fans to understand where we lie at this moment in time. Last season we finished 34 points away from Manchester United, and seven points away from relegation. Those are the facts, and bringing in two free transfers and a £4.8m midfielder is not suddenly going to make us Premiership champions. Fabricio Coloccini: “Our first ambition has to be staying in the Premier League again,” he said. “Before we think about anything else, we have to work for that. “Then if we can look higher than that, we will. “And we also would like to win one of the cups – that is a realistic aim. "But at the start of the season, we have to set our bottom line as staying in the Premier League. “We have a lot of new players, so we have to get to know them and they have to get to know us. "This pre-season will be important, and the trip to America will be very important because it is the first real chance for us to mix together as a group.”
