Toon Shirt Won't Win Derby!

Jonas Gutierrez wants his Newcastle United team-mates to write a new chapter in Geordie folklore, but says they have to live up to the black and white shirt ... it won't win the match on reputation.

Jonas Gutierrez: “We have had good results against Sunderland, but that is in the past.

“We have to live in the present, and all the derbies are different. We can’t expect the same as last year, or two years ago.

“It’s going to be something new, something different and something really, really hard.

“We know what it means for the city if we win that game.

“We want to be involved in that party, so we want the three points.

“We know that it’s not going to be easy. They’re a good side. Last season they had a good season, and they made a few signings.

“It’s going to be tough. All the games here are tough.

“We are not going to win just with the shirt – we have to play the 90 minutes, be focused and be ready for their fans and all the pressure they’re going to put on us.

“We have to think about that and give three points for the fans.

“It’s important to win. We don’t care if we play well or not. The fans want the three points, and me and all the players are the same.

“Their team and fans are going to put us under pressure.

“It’s important to start focused. I we start like we did against Manchester United (a 3-0 defeat), it won’t be possible to take something from there.

“We have to take out the things we did wrong and try to do it better, and not to make mistakes.”
