“Graham Carr and his people will be looking at players, and things will start to happen soon.
“Newcastle have got to look at the Danny Simpson situation, and if he’s going to leave, find a new full-back.
“I watched England against France and was impressed by Mathieu Debuchy.
“Alan Pardew’s been quoted as saying he has an interest in the guy, and he looks a quality player.
"You can never have too many of them.
"People have said Newcastle need a new centre-back, but with Steven Taylor coming back, and with Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson, I don’t think they’re too badly off there.
“They are one down in midfield, with Danny Guthrie leaving, so they could use some back-up there.
“It’s going to be a long season, with the Europa League, so you’ll need a big squad, and I like that they’re looking for versatility in players. That makes a lot of sense.
“Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote are obviously first choice in central midfield, but you need strength in depth.
“It’s good that the better players are on big contracts."
