Toon Keeper Happy To 'Enjoy The Moment'

Rob Elliot insists that Newcastle United are fully equipped for the relegation dogfight that lies ahead.

Rob Elliot: “I was in a relegation battle at Notts County when I was in League One, and at Charlton Athletic when we got relegated from the Championship.

“I only played the end of that season, and we were pretty much out of it by then.

“You’ve just got to stick together and be strong.

“We’d much rather be where we are than those below us – but we need to focus on what we need to do.

“We know we’ve got quality in the team.

“With the games being Saturday to Saturday now, I think you’ll start to see an increase in energy levels and performances.

“It is tough playing those Europa League games.

“Playing Saturday to Saturday isn’t something we’ve had this season. I think you’ll almost see a different Newcastle team. All the players can rest and prepare.

“It’s not been easy for the manager and the staff.

"You finish a game on a Thursday night, travel back on a Friday and you’re playing on a Sunday afternoon. You want to get as much preparation done as you can.

“My biggest thing is to enjoy my football and give 100%, and that’s what I want to stick to.

“That’s when I play my best. You don’t know what’s around the corner.

“I want to enjoy every game, and do the best to make sure the manager’s always thinking positively, so when he makes a decision, everything I’ve done is positive.”
