Toon Fan Fighting A Losing Battle?

That idiot parading under the name of "Newcastle United fan", who 'lamped' a police horse after the Mackem derby, is back in court.

He is accused of punching a police horse as violence flared at a Tyne-Wear derby but he has denied violent disorder.

Barry Rogerson, 45, was charged after trouble flared when the Magpies lost 3-0 at home to arch-rivals Sunderland in April.

Rogerson, wearing a dark suit, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court today for a brief hearing, where he denied the offence.

Jim Hope, prosecuting, said: “The Crown’s position is these matters are so serious they can only be dealt with at the crown court.”

District Judge Stephen Earl told Rogerson he must appear at Newcastle Crown Court on September 23.

Rogerson, of Hartlands, Bedlington, Northumberland, was granted conditional bail.

We are not judge or jury here at NU-Mad, but the guy ADMITTED doing it on the TV programme 'Look North', and the video of the incident shows him punching the animal!

So what can his defence be?

"The horse took a dive", or perhaps he wants the horse to give it's side of events in court?
