Toon Fairs Cup Coach Honoured
Newcastle lifelong fan Bill Gibbs was there to witness the Magpies bring home the silverware back in 1969, and ... ... Bill and a bunch of pals have managed to track down the veteran squad to give all members of the winning team a replica ’69 black and white shirt to celebrate their win. Former Magpie coach Dave Smith, based in Plymouth, is the final person to receive the shirt. Bill Gibbs: “It’s brilliant. “We have been working hard to make sure every person who made up that team received their presents from me and the lads. And now Dave Smith is the final piece to our jigsaw. “It’s a honour to have met up with the lads on the ‘69 side and they were all delighted to slip on their Magpie shirts again. “We would have loved to have been able to meet manager Joe Harvey but sadly he’s dead.” Dave Smith: “I was the coach at the time and loved every minute of it.
