Danny Simpson has been ruled out of Newcastle United's first game in the Premier League since promotion. The 23-year-old might not be fit until September after undergoing surgery on a foot problem last month. Simpson won't be able to take part in pre-season, ruling him out of the opening weekend of the season on August 14/15. Ryan Taylor is the obvious replacement at right-back. Chris Hughton: "Danny had a minor operation at the end of the season, and he will miss the first part of the season. "We're hoping that he'll be fit by the end of August, but he'll possibly miss the first three or four games. "It was a foot problem that he had towards the end of last season that we knew need surgery at the end of the season. The problem was just a bit more than what we thought it was. "Danny's a tough boy, and he was able to play with no pain, but we were aware it was going to take a minor operation at the end of the season."
