Newcastle United right-back James Tavernier has joined Milton Keynes Dons on loan for the remainder of the season.

Bradford-born Tavernier makes the switch to MK1 just 48 hours after Magpies team mate Alan Smith.

The 20-year old has good experience of League 1 having enjoyed successful loan spells at Carlisle United and Sheffield Wednesday this season.

Originally on Leeds United’s books as a youngster, Tavernier switched to Tyneside and signed a two-year scholarship before inking his first professional contract in August 2009.

He made his first team debut that season, featuring in the Carling Cup against Peterborough.
