Toon Appeal Red Card
Newcastle Utd have decided to appeal against the straight red card shown to Cheik Tiote at Stevenage on Saturday. The Magpies formally challenged the dismissal by contacting the FA last night, but if they fail it could result in a lengthened suspension for the midfielder. Tiote will receive an automatic three-game ban, but that could be increased by the FA if they deem the appeal to be frivolous. While Tiote appeared to make contact with the ball, both his feet were off the ground when the challenge was made, which prompted referee Andre Marriner to produce the red card.
