Todd upbeat despite heavy defeat

Darlington manager Colin Todd took the positives from a thumping 7-2 defeat at home to Newcastle on Saturday. Todd was unhappy with some of the defending on show as Damien Duff, Kevin Nolan, Shola Ameobi (two), Jonas Gutierrez, Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll netted for the Magpies but saw assistant manager Dean Windass hit a brace in consolation. Todd said: "It was very difficult for the players. "They go out there with the best intentions but they are playing against opposition that has played at the highest level. "But we were very easy to push off the ball for the goals we conceded. We had people around Ameobi for one of his goals so that was poor. "But we have a midfield which I think can create and going forward we have something."
