Tigers troubled by tryless run

Leicester's head coach Richard Cockerill admitted his side's record tryless sequence is becoming a "bugbear" for his players. The Tigers failed to cross the opposition line for the third successive game this season in beating Newcastle 15-6 at Welford Road and have now gone a club record four hours and 19 minutes of league rugby since they scored a try. "We have got nine points from three games so there are teams in worse positions than us," Cockerill said. "We have got to ride the storm and work on our accuracy. We have some new guys in the side and a few injuries at the moment as well. "Not scoring tries is a bugbear for all of us. We like to score tries and last season we were the second-highest try-scorers in the competition which might surprise a few people. So we have got a little bit of time to go yet." Newcastle's defeat was their first of the season but their director of rugby Steve Bates was proud of his side's performance. "I am disappointed that we didn't squeeze a result but I am really proud of the performance," Bates said. "It was a really great team performance, we were under a lot of pressure at times but I thought the guys fought really well together. That is something we can build on and develop over the next couple of months. "This was a massive occasion for Leicester with the opening of the new stand and I sure the whole thing added to the way Leicester viewed the game. "I think if we had a little bit more experience and composure we might have made it very close at the end."
