The Liverpool Dream Fades For Carroll And Downing

They were the club that milked the North-East for decades, taking the likes of Alan Kennedy and Terry McDermott from the Toon - Graeme Souness from the Boro.

But Liverpool had their last throw of the dice when they took Andy Carroll, Jose Enrique and Stewart Downing to Anfield in a massive show of financial clout.

But Liverpool are no longer the power they used to be, and and are looking to off-load their big money signings, to try and bring in funds to halt their slide down the table.

Carroll is CERTAIN to go in the summer, and now winger Stewart Downing admits he will consider his options next month after claiming Brendan Rodgers has told him he can leave.  The England international has struggled to find a place in the first team all season and has found himself filling in at left-back on occasions.

Downing: "The manager has said I can leave if I want to."

The 28-year-old is tipped to return to Middlesbrough.
