The world of football stopped to pay tribute to the great Sir Bobby Robson following his death last month. One of the best bosses to emerge from England, he gained respect from around the globe for his work. Robson started his managerial career at Fulham in 1968, taking control of Ipswich, England, PSV Eindhoven (twice), Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona before finishing at Newcastle, the club he supported all his life. The Geordie legend worked with some of the game's greats along the years and Sportsmail has compiled the top 50 stars to work under him. As always, you can tell us who you think should finish No 1 by leaving your comments. 40 Eric Gerets Gerets played under and then succeeded Robson at PSV Eindhoven. As a player he won the Dutch league in 1991 and 1992 then won another two on the bounce after taking over in 1999. 39 Nolberto Solano The diminutive Peruvian was a terrace hero at Newcastle and scored what he describes as his favourite goal against 1860 Munich in the Intertoto Cup. He picked up the ball in his own half, skipped past a string of challenges and finished from inside the box. 38 Gheorghe Popescu Popescu (right) played under Robson twice - at PSV in the early 90s and at Barcelona in the 1996-97 season. He won the Dutch league twice with PSV, the Spanish Super Cup in 1996 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and Spanish Cup in 1997. 37 Shay Given Given was playing understudy to Steve Harper when Robson arrived at St. James' Park but he soon established himself in the No 1spot as Newcastle mounted their unexpected title-challenge in 2001-02 - eventually finishing in fourth place. 36 Jan Heintze The Danish left-sided defender was an integral part of the PSV side that won the Dutch title in 1991 and 1992. 35 Mark Wright Robson gave Wright his international debut in 1984 but his highlight came at Italia 90 when his only goal for the national side saw off Egypt in the group stages and put England through to the second round. 34 Rob Lee Became a holding midfielder in Robson's Newcastle side, allowing others to play more attacking roles. Lee (right) was reluctantly allowed to leave in 2002 after three years playing under Robson. 33 Russell Osman A member of the Ipswich side that won the UEFA Cup in 1981, he played almost 400 times for Town and featured in the film Escape To Victory alongside the likes of Pele and Ossie Ardiles. 32 David Platt Given his first cap by Robson, his last-minute volley against Belgium in the second round of Italia 90 had the England manager doing a little dance of joy. 31 Roger Osborne Robson signed Osbourne from a local Suffolk side with the delightful name of Grundisburgh. He would have been very pleased he did as the midfielder went on to score the winning goal for Ipswich in the 1978 FA Cup final.
