Alan Shearer walked into talks with Mike Ashley today to be told the Newcastle manager's job is his if he wants it.
The Magpies owner, who arrived at the club's training ground by helicopter at 3pm today, is ready to hand the 38-year-old a four-year contract and unveil him as the club's new figurehead later this week.
Although he failed to keep Newcastle in the top-flight during his eight games in charge, Shearer has done enough to convince the board he is the man to drive their promotion bid.
