Barry Venison is a player that many will remember as a member as success from his days with Liverpool and Newcastle.
A player who was comfortable with the ball at his feet, he was an exciting full-back who was later converted into a midfielder by Kevin Keegan. After his spell with Newcastle, Venison moved to Turkey to play for Galatasaray while Graeme Souness was the manager there.
Venison had played under Souness at Liverpool and felt the time was right to try his luck abroad.
He only stayed in Turkey for around 5 months; the player followed manager Souness to Southampton where he helped them avoid relegation in 1996.
The following season, Venison suffered a back injury that forced him to retire from the game at the age of 32.
Venison was one of a group of former Liverpool players that tried their hand at television work after retirement and he found some success at the role.
He worked for Sky Sports and then ITV where he hosted some programmes as well as offering his opinions on the game.
Venison was often praised for what he said but his early television appearances were overshadowed by his mullet and the colourful array of shirts he would wear.Eventually Venison was convinced to get a more acceptable haircut and began to dress in a more sober fashion.
He had a successful career with ITV and worked on their coverage of European and international football as well as co-hosting On The Ball with Gabby Logan.
He then left ITV and emigrated to the USA where he is now a successful property developer in Southern California.
