That Bid Newcastle Made? It Didn't Happen!

It was reported in the media yesterday that Newcastle United made a bid for ...

... PSV Eindhoven keeper Jeroen Zoet – but according to news today -they are yet to make an offer.

Boss Alan Pardew wants to strengthen his goalkeeping options after the departure of long-serving Steve Harper.

And Holland Under-21 cap Zoet has been earmarked as a potential recruit.

Reports in Holland suggest the Magpies have had a £1.7million bid rejected by PSV.

However, it is understood that Newcastle are yet to move for the 22-year-old, who has spent the past two seasons on loan at RKC Waalwijk and has another year left on his PSV contract.

Rob Elliot is likely to start the season between the posts, with first-choice stopper Krul still recovering from the dislocated shoulder he suffered in April’s Tyne-Wear derby defeat.

United goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman: “Tim was brilliant last year. He will come back next year and his shoulder will be fine.”

Elliot was signed two years ago from Charlton Athletic.
