Team of the Week 29/11/11

29 November 2011 11:19
After a full fixture of Barclays Premier League games this weekend, it is now time to find out who performed the best and made it into the football.co.uk team of the week!

This weekend's games featured a clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, Man United at home to Newcastle and Wolves away at Chelsea.

Position : Goalkeeper
Tim Krul (Newcastle)
One of the best goalkeeping displays you will see this season. The Dutch keeper produced save after save to keep United at bay. His saves from Giggs, Rooney and Vidic were fantastic stops although he couldn't unfortunately keep them out all afternoon.

Position: Defender
Danny Simpson (Newcastle)
Like Krul, Simpson put in a brilliant defensive display at Old Trafford against his former club. He blocked brilliantly from Hernandez on the line and dug in deep to keep his side in the game against Manchester United.

Position: Defender
Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)
City have assembled a squad of stars from around the globe but the one player who has stood out above the rest is their captain. The Belgian coped well with Liverpool's attack and scored the goal to put City ahead.

Position: Defender
Steven Taylor (Newcastle)
Another one who was outstanding at the back for Newcastle at Old Trafford. Like fellow defenders Ryan Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini, he has played every minute of every Premier League game this campaign.

Position: Defender
Leighton Baines (Everton)
For the second week running Leighton Baines makes it into Team of the Week. The England International left back was again on hand to provide his team mates with two great assists during Everton's 2-0 victory over Bolton at The Reebok.

Position: Midfielder
Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
The combative midfielder once again put in a solid performance in attack and defence and was key to making sure City came away from Anfield with a hard earned point. City even with all the money in the world will miss him when he goes to the African Cup of Nations in the new year.

Position: Midfielder
Lucas (Liverpool)
After a very good showing last week against Chelsea it was another great performance from the Brazilian midfielder. He was at the centre of every attack for Liverpool and was unlucky not to get a goal.

Position: Midfielder
Glenn Whelan (Stoke City)
Scored an important goal for the Potters as well as driving his side forward throughout what was a very difficult encounter with Blackburn. Stoke needed a big result and thanks to Whelan they got just that.

Position: Forward
Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
It may not have been the best result for Arsenal at home to a resilient Fulham team, but Walcott certainly did his best to create chances for his team mates. He was a threat to Fulham's defence all afternoon and these good performances are becoming more regular from Walcott.

Position: Forward
Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham)
Two goals and an assist for Adebayor, who also managed two goals last week. Spurs fans may have struggled to take to Adebayor due to his past with Arsenal but the Togolese forward is certainly doing all he can to make sure they do. His physical presence and goalscoring touch have made Spurs a better side this season.

Position: Forward
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)
Sturridge has developed into a great young player. After a superb loan spell at Bolton last season he has now found his feet at Chelsea. Two more goals at home to Wolves means he has taken his tally to six for the season.
