Taylor - Standards cannot slip

24 February 2009 08:54
Steven Taylor insists he and his Newcastle team-mates are well aware that they cannot allow standards to slip in the battle against Premier League relegation.[LNB] Newcastle sit 15th in the table, five points clear of 18th-placed Blackburn, but the Magpies have played a game more than Sam Allardyce's team and face a less than appealing fixture run-in when compared with their rivals.[LNB]Defender Taylor, though, sees reasons to be optimistic after holding Everton to a 0-0 draw on Sunday after Kevin Nolan's first-half red card.[LNB]The result ensured Newcastle are now unbeaten in three games and England Under 21 star Taylor does not expect fans to offer room for any decrease in effort.[LNB]"You're at a massive football club and the fans will slate you if you show even the slightest sign of pulling out of something," he said in the Daily Express. [LNB]"If you're not giving it 100 per cent, they'll let you know. You'll get found out. The fans aren't stupid.[LNB]"On thing we're not going to do now is sit back and let teams come on to us. We're going to take the game to the opposition."[LNB]
