Taylor - Shearer must stay

Newcastle defender Stephen Taylor believes Alan Shearer is the 'only one' who can help the club back to the Premier League. Taylor and his Magpies team-mates were relegated on the last day of the season as a defeat at Aston Villa ensured Shearer failed in a bid to help his hometown club beat the drop. The ex-England and Newcastle captain returned at the beginning of April on a temporary, eight-game SOS mission and it is not yet clear if he will stay at St James' Park for next term. Shearer is in talks with managing director Derek Llambias regarding a possible permanent deal, and Taylor is desperate for his current boss to stay and help the club out of the Championship. He said of Shearer: "The club means so much to him. The fans love him, and he was hurt like we were about relegation. Unbelievable "He has been unbelievable. The only one person who I think can take us back up is Alan. He has been fantastic to work with. "Let's hope we get the chance to work with him again." Taylor added: "We thought we were going to get out of it, but it is starting to sink in now. "We have got to deal with it and put ourselves back up there in the Premier League with no mistakes next year. "We need stability so we can move on as a football club and look to the future."
