Taylor apologises to Toon Army

Newcastle captain Steven Taylor has apologised to the Toon Army for the defeat by Peterborough in the Carling Cup. The Magpies crashed out 2-0 at London Road after manager Chris Hughton opted to pick a youthful XI to preserve his regular players for the weekend clash with Ipswich. Goals from Craig Mackail-Smith and Tom Williams sealed the win for the Posh, but Taylor was quick to thank the travelling fans for their support. "We have to thank them - they were first class and we're sorry for them," he told the Newcastle Chronicle. "They were fantastic, and at no point did they turn on us. There were a lot of young lads out there. "Big credit goes to the fans - they supported them on a night when it was a big occasion for them."
