Sturridge Will Not Be New Toon No 9

Newcastle are not in the race to sign England under-21 star Daniel Sturridge. The Chronicle reported last month that Alan Pardew was going to offer the Chelsea star the famous No 9 shirt to tempt him ... ... but the newspaper now understands Sturridge is not in Alan Pardew’s sights. Sturridge is available for loan or sale at bids starting from £6m from Andre Villa-Boas’ new side. Sturridge spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and the Trotters are keen to bring him to the Reebok Stadium on a permanent basis if they can. West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City are also keen on the man who netted eight goals last term while on loan at Wanderers. Instead, though, United will turn their attentions elsewhere as they try to bring in a permanent striker.
