Squad needs strengthening - Hughton

Interim boss Chris Hughton insists it is imperative Newcastle strengthen their squad if they are to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League. Hughton has seen Obafemi Martins, Sebastien Bassong and Habib Beye leave St James' Park in recent weeks and there is speculation more players could move on before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. But Hughton told the Northern Echo: "Whether we will lose more players, I don't know. But if that is the case, we will have to think about players coming in. "Whoever takes over (as manager), it will be their remit to bring the club back (to the top flight). But to be able to do that you have to have a squad capable of doing it. "We have lost three since pre-season. If you asked me whether this squad would be good enough to challenge I would say `Yes'. "But at some stage we are going to pick up injuries and that needs to be addressed."
