Sol: 'I Cannot Help Lack Of Fitness - I Was On Holiday!'

06 August 2010 10:23
Should Sol Campbell have put in the effort to keep fit knowing he would be playing Premiership football in August? That is the question a lot of fans are asking. Newcastle's summer signing called the doubters "idiots" for suggesting he was out of shape, then made a u-turn and said he does not believe he will be fit enough for their season opener against Manchester United. Sol Campbell: "I've started late. "I'm three weeks behind everyone else. It's all about catch up. "You can't really rush the body. So you've got to take your time and step by step. "I can't do anything about it. Getting married and going on honeymoon and stuff like that. "Now's the time to knuckle down and in two or three weeks I should be in better shape to play some games. "It's only a week to go until the (Manchester United) game so it's a little bit short for me, for sure."
