Socceroos Dump Smoggy And Viduka Couldn't Be Bothered!

It wasn't that long ago Australia coach Pim Verbeek talked of having Mark Viduka and Scott McDonald leading the line against the rest of the world in South Africa this summer. How times have changed. Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald has been axed from Australia's World Cup squad ... while Mark Viduka simply 'couldn't be bothered' to get himself fit! McDonald was a prolific goal-scorer at club level in the worst league in Europe -Scotland - for both Motherwell and Celtic before moving to Teesside. But he has found the Championship tougher than he first thought, and his international career has suffered - he has not scored in 16 appearances for the Socceroos. The 26-year-old failed once more in Monday's 2-1 win over New Zealand, prompting coach Pim Verbeek to drop him from the squad. It means the Socceroos squad now contains just three front line strikers in Josh Kennedy, Harry Kewell and the little known Nikita Rukavytsya - who has just two caps. Viduka showed little appetite for the game during his time at St James' Park ... but seemed to show a big appetite for burgers ... and he piled on the weight.
