The Toon boss has tried to off-load the midfielder ever since he took over the manager's job ... supposedly on the instruction of Mike Ashley ... who wants the former Man Utd player off the wage bill.
Pardew tried to get Smith to return to Leeds United back in July, and Newcastle even offered to pay £30,000 of his weekly wage of £50,000 ... but the Whites still couldn't afford him.
Smith has made it known he will refuse to take a wage cut to move elsewhere, and the stalemate continues.
Obviously the player puts money before matches, because he has made only one substitute appearances this season.
