DANNY SIMPSON is desperate to make a permanent switch to Newcastle United but revealed he is still in the dark about his future at St James' Park.[LNB] The Manchester United defender has been the most impressive of Chris Hughton's trio of loan signings this season with his ability to operate across the back four making him a useful stopgap when the likes of Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique and Fabricio Coloccini have been sidelined.[LNB] Simpson's consistently solid performances have secured him a regular starting berth which he is expected to retain in Monday evening's televised encounter at Preston North End.[LNB] With Hughton confirming that he doesn't expect to make any further loan signings ahead of next Thursday's 5pm deadline Simpson's versatility could also prove vital should Newcastle suffer further injuries to their defensive ranks during the next six weeks.[LNB] But he revealed that he has received no hint from Hughton that he has done enough to land a permanent contract when his loan deal expires on January 2.[LNB] No-one has said anything to me about January yet,[LNB] noted the 22-year-old who had loan spells at Blackburn, Ipswich and Sunderland before he joined Newcastle in August.[LNB] I'm still waiting. I still don't know what the situation is but all I can do is keep playing well, keep performing and do my best for Newcastle.[LNB] I just have to let my agent, the business people at Newcastle and everyone else settle that.[LNB] I don't want to get caught up in that really, my focus has to be on training well and playing well.[LNB] After spending the last three seasons loaned out by the Old Trafford club, Simpson hopes he can finally end his nomadic lifestyle and make Tyneside his permanent home.[LNB] I have settled really, really well,'' he admitted. Newcastle feels like home I feel like I'm part of it here.[LNB] The longer my loan spell goes on, the more I like it here. I'm getting to know everyone, building relationships and friendships with people. I'm enjoying it on the pitch and off it, too.[LNB] As long as I'm doing well and the fans are supporting me, I'm doing my job then I'm sure things will sort themselves out by January.[LNB] Asked if he was playing the best football of his career, Simpson added: Not really. I still think there's more to come from me.[LNB] I want to score more goals, get more assists, be more influential in our attacking play. I want more clean sheets as well.''[LNB]
