Shola For Hull? Not Before Brazil!

10 December 2013 18:11
The Chronicle claims Hull City are monitoring the performances of Shola Ameobi, but ...

... he won't be leaving Newcastle until his contract is up in the summer.

Steve Bruce sent assistant coach Steve Agnew to St James’ Park to assess Ameobi’s display against West Bromwich Albion in the last home game.

Even though Ameobi’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, we believe he would rather stay on Tyneside than meet up with long-time pal Steve Harper over on Humberside.

Shola's contribution to the team in recent weeks, playing in the hole behind the front-runner, has been a major reason why United are top of the current form table.

Ameobi says he is "open-minded" about his future, but at 32 he knows he won't be guaranteed first-team football at Newcastle or Hull.

He has not scored in the Premier League for the Magpies this term but has kept out Toon No 9 Papiss Cisse in a new formation that seems to suit United's midfield players.

He will be free to discuss a move to another club in January, but being settled at Newcastle could be the the key to his dream of playing at the World Cup finals in Brazil.

And Alan Pardew certainly won't want to see him leave until this current campaign is over.

Ameobi had said earlier in the season: “I feel I can play football for Newcastle.

“I think I’ve got a little bit left in me.

“Whichever way the club wants to go, it’s down to them.

“If I’m wanted at Newcastle, I’ll play at Newcastle. If I’m not, I’ll go elsewhere.

“It means a lot to be playing now. I’m in the latter stages of my career.

“In recent months, I haven’t done that, which is very frustrating.

“I feel like I’m fit and strong enough to compete with anyone here at Newcastle.”
