Shearer left standing still as Newcastle turn to Hughton to take over the interim reins
Newcastle United ditched plans to use Alan Shearer at the forefront of their new season ticket campaign because of the uncertainty over his future.
Season ticket reminders started to land through fans' letterboxes over the weekend but with Newcastle up for sale to the quickest bidder, the club's hierarchy dropped the idea of using Shearer as the image on literature sent out ahead of the Championship season.
Instead fans were sent a routine letter signed by managing director Derek Llambias.
