Shearer hopes for Jonas boost

Newcastle boss Alan Shearer hopes Jonas Gutierrez's ankle problem does not flare up again.[LNB] The Argentina international has been carrying a knock for some time and was only deemed fit enough for a place on the bench as the Magpies drew 0-0 with Portsmouth on Monday.[LNB]He did enter the fray as a 71st minute substitute during the Pompey clash, but looked far from his buccaneering best.[LNB]Gutierrez then sloped off at the end of the game looking far from happy and Shearer has confirmed that an old injury is still giving him grief.[LNB]"Jonas had a knock on an ankle injury. He had been away for two days (prior to the Pompey game)," Shearer told the Evening Chronicle.[LNB]"He was all right to put on the bench, so we will see how is."[LNB]ScanMeanwhile, Jose Enrique's season appears to have been brought to a premature end with the news that he has picked up a hamstring strain.[LNB]The Spaniard made his long-awaited return from injury against Portsmouth, but lasted just 20 minutes against Paul Hart's side.[LNB]"It was his hamstring, so a different injury to the one he had," added Shearer.[LNB]"How bad? We don't know.[LNB]"He will undergo a scan, but my experience of hamstrings tells me he is unlikely to be fit for the weekend (trip to Liverpool)."[LNB]
