Shane Ferguson A Mike Ashley Favourite
The major topic of conversation on Tyneside yesterday was Mike Ashley's decision to snub Joey Barton's offer to tie himself to Newcastle United for the rest of his career. Arguably the Player of the Season - Barton wants to stay at the St James' Park "and help Newcastle get into Europe". But Ashley has made it known Barton is not part of HIS plans. However, teenage full-back Shane Ferguson seems to 'tick all of the boxes' and the player who is being courted by both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, is poised to sign a new five-year deal that will commit him to Newcastle until 2016. The 19-year-old's representatives have been in talks with Newcastle officials this week, and an agreement on a new deal is close.
