Ameobi is expected to start for Newcastle United against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Thursday night.

“It gives us opportunities to try and play, which is great, really.
“Hopefully, I can impress in these games and show the manager that I’m ready to step up, really.
“It’s great to hear Shola saying I could beat what he has achieved, and say nice things about me.
“I’ve got people telling me I’ve got good ability, but at the end of the day that’s not everything.
“It’s about hard work. I’m trying to work on that at the moment. That’s more important, for me, than the ability I have.
“If I get that right, the ability will shine through.”
