A Mike Williamson own goal and a wonderful strike from Michael Bostwick put the home side in control before the Magpies had Cheik Tiote sent off for a wild lunge on Jon Ashton. Joey Barton pulled a goal back in stoppage time but Peter Winn slotted home the clincher for Stevenage to give their fans memories to even exceed those of their famous draw against the same opponents in 1998. League One Notts County claimed a 2-1 win over Premier League Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Craig Westcarr and Lee Hughes got the goals for the visitors before Darren Bent pulled one back from the spot for the hosts as Black Cats boss Steve Bruce paid the price for resting several first-team regulars. West Brom and Blackpool were the two other Premier League casualties on the day. The Baggies were sunk at Reading as in-form Shane Long grabbed the only goal of the game before the away side had Jonas Olsson sent off, while the Seasiders lost 2-0 to Southampton as Lee Barnard and Guly got the goals. Arsenal avoided an embarrassing home defeat to Leeds in the day's early kick-off as Cesc Fabregas' late penalty secured a 1-1 draw after Robert Snodgrass had put Leeds ahead from the spot in the 54th minute. Mick McCarthy's Wolves could not follow up their midweek league win over Chelsea as Billy Sharp and James Hayter scored to hold them to a 2-2 draw against Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium. Nenad Milijas and Stephen Hunt, from a penalty, responded for the visitors, who had George Elokobi dismissed. Kyle Walker, Marc Albrighton and Stiliyan Petrov were on target for Aston Villa in a 3-1 win at Sheffield United despite having the dismissal of Ashley Young, while Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander spared Bolton's blushes with a late goals in a 2-0 win against non-league York. Stoke face an away trip for a replay after a 1-1 draw with Cardiff. Michael Chopra gave the Welsh side an early lead but Tuncay Sanli responded for the Potters. Everton were comfortable 5-1 winners at Championship Scunthorpe as Louis Saha, Jermaine Beckford, Seamus Coleman, Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines grabbed the goals, Michael Collins responding for the hosts at Glanford Park. Fulham also enjoyed a comfortable victory as they beat League One Peterborough 6-2. Diomansy Kamara helped himself to a hat-trick as Kelvin Etuhu, Zoltan Gera and Jonathan Greening also got on the scoresheet. Wigan won 3-2 at Hull with Mohamed Diame scoring two and youngster Callum McManaman grabbing his first senior goal, Nick Barmby's brace for Hull proving in vain. Jonathan Spector and Frederic Piquionne helped West Ham beat Barnsley 2-0 and Matt Derbyshire bagged a brace in Birmingham's 4-1 win at Millwall. David Murphy and Cameron Jerome also scored for Blues with Danny Schofield bagging the only goal of the game for the Lions. Middlesbrough were dumped out by League Two side Burton. Boro had led through a Gary O'Neil goal but two Shaun Harrad goals in the last eight minutes sealed a 2-1 win for the home side. Junior Hoilett got the only goal of the game to help Blackburn beat Championship leaders QPR 1-0 and high-flying Norwich are also out after Jimmy Smith's header gave Leyton Orient victory at Carrow Road. Portsmouth lost 3-1 to Brighton after having striker Dave Kitson sent off for violent conduct, the League One leaders getting goals through Chris Wood, an Anthony Barnes penalty and Francisco Sandaza. Tom Kilbey scored Portsmouth's goal. Sheffield Wednesday also caused an upset as Gary Teale, Neil Mellor and Clinton Morrison netted in a 3-0 win at Bristol City. Swansea were 4-0 winners over Colchester. Garry Monk, Darren Pratley, Cedric Van der Gun and Scott Sinclair were on target for the Swans. Watford came from a goal down to beat Hartlepool 4-1. Antony Sweeney gave Pools the lead before strikes from Piero Mingoia, Marvin Sordell (2) and Danny Graham helped Watford to a big win. Burnley defeated Port Vale 4-2 with Clarke Carlisle, Tyrone Mears, Chris Eagles and Graham Alexander on target for the Clarets. Robert Taylor scored twice for League Two Vale. Freddy Eastwood and Carl Baker Coventry scored the goals as Coventry were 2-1 winners over Crystal Palace, who had Neil Danns to thank for their goal. Luke Chambers grabbed a late winner to help Nottingham Forest beat Preston 2-1 in Phil Brown's first game as North End boss. Darren Carter had given Preston the lead before Paul Anderson equalised in the 50th minute. Huddersfield claimed a straightforward 2-0 success against Dover with Scott Arfield and Gary Roberts on target early on and Eunan O'Kane scored as League Two Torquay upset League One Carlisle 1-0.
