Remy Snubs Toon For QPR!

14 January 2013 21:12
Queens Park Rangers have made an 11th-hour bid to hijack Loic Remy's move to Newcastle United ... and Joey Barton says QPR are favourites.

The Olympique Marseille striker was expected on Tyneside after a £9m fee was agreed between the two clubs.

But Remy flew into London last night and held talks with basement club OPR.

And the terms on offer at Loftus Road are understood well in excess of the deal put to Remy by Newcastle.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp had attempted to meet with Remy and his representatives after watching play earlier this month.

But Remy refused, and Redknapp said: “He didn’t want to come,

“It doesn’t help when you’re bottom (of the Premier League table).

“Players will look at that, and if there are other clubs in England after them, it can be difficult.”

United – who operate a strict wage structure – won’t match the contract put to Remy by QPR.

And the club will turn to other targets should he sign for the London club.

Remy’s Stade Velodrome team-mate Joey Barton, on loan from QPR, broke the news on social networking site Twitter.

The former Newcastle midfielder tweeted: “Just heard from a magician that Loic Remy has signed for QPR.

“Not sure what happened at Newcastle probably (managing director Derek Llambias) Llambas again.

“Gift of the gab from Harry Redknapp perhaps? Thought it was done and dusted to Newcastle.

“Something must of gone amiss. Great news 4 #QPR.”

Ba, Coloccini ... Now Ben Arfa!

We've lost Demba Ba; Fabricio Coloccini wants to leave "ASAP!" ... and now Hatem Ben Arfa has hinted he would be interested in joining Paris St Germain this summer.

It has been a frustrating time of late for the France international, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since December 10.

The Magpies are currently just two points above the relegation zone, and Ben Arfa is vowing to "save" the club from the drop ... then head back to France.

Ben Arfa: "Signing for PSG would be a childhood dream. If there is a proposal, I will study it with interest. If there is a proposal. The "if" is important.

"PSG is a club that lives in my heart. To play would be a nice gift.

"I should be able to resume in mid-February. I heal from Monday to Friday at the medical centre at Clairefontaine.

"Morale is good because I'm in Paris with family. But when I see the (Newcastle) games on television, it is not easy. The team needs all players and it is almost relegation.

"I am under contract with Newcastle and I'm fine.

"First, I must save my club. I only think of that. I will help my team and my coach (manager Alan Pardew), with whom I get along great.

"We really want to fight for him. The fans are great too."

Colo Knows Where He Stands With Toon Fans!

Alan Pardew says United's fans can play their part in persuading Fabricio Coloccini to stay at St James's Park ... but it was Pardew who upset him in thefirst place!

The club's captain wants to return to his native Argentina because of what has been described by his agent as a "personal matter" ... when rumours claim it was the Toon boss who rattled his cage.

Having shipped a boat-load of goals against Arsenal, Coloccini was the man to take the flak from the boss when the blue mist was decending after the match.

The skipper felt there were "others" just as bad, but Pardew singled him out.

The 30-year-old - who signed a new four-year contract late last season - is wanted by Argentinian club San Lorenzo, who will sign him if his United contract is "rescinded".

Coloccini kept the skipper's armband for Saturday's game against Norwich City, and Pardew knows he needs his skipper far more than his skipper needs him!

Newcastle's travelling fans chanted Coloccini's name at Carrow Road, but the player has ALWAYS had a good association with the Toon Army.

You can take that as a "given".

Alan Pardew: "He played very well, and the love from the fans is important for any player, particularly where we are right now.

"That can't do anything but help us.

"All I'll say is we're keeping that internal at this time.

"There's been a lot written - most of it rubbish. I'll speak to him this week, and hopefully come to a resolution.

"He is an important player in terms of calmness and assurance."

EARLIER NEWS ... Remy Has Medical At St James' Park!

Marseille president Vincent Labrune has confirmed a deal has been agreed with Newcastle United for Loic Remy and the striker has been given permission to discuss a move to St James' Park.

Remy knocked back Harry Redknapp on Friday, after the Queens Park Rangers boss travelled to France to meet him.

But the 26-year-old is on his way to Newcastle after an offer, reportedly in the region of €10million (£8.3m), was accepted by Marseille.

Vincent Labrune: "We have an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Remy.

"Loic can negotiate with them."

Remy was given permission to leave the team hotel where Marseille were staying ahead of Sunday evening's Ligue 1 game against Sochaux.

Earlier, former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, who has been a team-mate of Remy's at Marseille, wished the striker well.

Barton tweeted: "Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don't worry I've told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy."

And how did Marseille do without him?

They made a horror start to 2013 as their Ligue 1 title bid suffered a shock blow with a 3-1 defeat at 10-man Sochaux.

OM returned from the winter break level at the top with Paris St Germain and Lyon but are adrift of both after a forgettable night in the snow in Montbeliard.

First-half goals from Sloan Privat and Cedric Bakambu stunned the visitors before a Jeremy Morel own goal shortly after half-time handed Sochaux full control.

Their grip loosened when Jordan Ayew quickly replied and then Joseph Lopy saw red on the hour.

But Marseille failed to make any further inroads with Lucas Mendes' header against the post with the final touch the closest they came.

Former Toon Striker: 'We Need A Geordie Skipper'!

Mick Quinn says Newcastle are desperate for a new Alan Shearer-figure to calm down the dressing room.

Mick Quinn: “Brendan Rodgers this week spoke about having more Scousers in the team like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

“How Newcastle could do with a Geordie like Alan Shearer in the dressing room to bang a few heads together at the moment.

“When you give the armband to an overseas player there is an inevitability one day they will want to go home.

“One day they will want to play for the club they started their career at or supported as a boy.

“They will always have a preferred destination at the back of their mind.

“Therefore it is no surprise when they leave the club.

“Colo looked good at the start of the season – not least in the Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland when he was magnificent.

“Since then it has been a steady decline.

“You have to ask what is the problem?

“Is he not seeing eye to eye with the manager?

“Does the club no longer match his ambitions?

“Is he trying to jump what is a sinking ship? Or is it something else?

“Either way, it needs to be sorted – and quickly.

“At the moment Newcastle need a bit of extra character in the dressing room.

“The main man has gone in Demba Ba.

“Now the captain could be going too.

“Sometimes after a bit of success things break away, piece by piece.

“That is why I always say if you can get it, have a hardcore of British or local players at the club.

“It is not good for the rest of the players when they see their captain walking away.

“I experienced relegation with Portsmouth and we had that.

“One by one people left or threatened to leave at the end of the season. It takes it toll.

“I just think if Coloccini wants to leave for football reasons he must come out and say what his intentions are.

“It would be a kick in the teeth for fans if he left.”
